Following the tremendous success of the Bedford Winter Night Shelter for the last two years, we are collaborating with Bedford Borough Council to provide the same service again this year. We will open for just over 100 nights during the coldest weeks of the year, providing up to 2000 free bedspaces and 4000 free meals for anyone in need of a safe place to stay. We are seeking to enhance our provision by recruiting additional volunteers over the winter period to help support the running of the shelter.
The Winter Nightshelter runs at its best because of our volunteers who care and want to help. The guests pick up on this and a community emerges of mutual respect, with kindness at its heart. We need over 100 people to volunteer for either morning or evening shifts at the shelter, over the weeks that we will be open.
You can volunteer for one evening a week or more, or less. We’re happy to have a conversation to consider your availability.
Update: Enormous thanks to the community of Bedford for so many signing up to be part of a better story for those who come to the Nightshelter. We are now particularly looking for regular volunteers for Wednesday evenings, and weekend morning and evening shifts.
If you would also be willing to help out just in the Christmas period, we’d love to hear from you. We are seeking to find more volunteers specifically for the period between Christmas and New Year. So if you can even offer just one or two shifts, please do get in touch. Thank you!
