Four Men, 81 Miles, One Powerful Reminder.
On the 12th September at 6pm, with 24 hours on the clock, 46 people left the grounds of Bedford Greenacre Independent School to take on an 81-mile challenge around the Bunyan Trail.
When the dust settled on this year’s Pilgrim’s Reckoning, there were plenty of ways to measure success.
There were miles completed.
There were finish lines crossed.
There was an incredible £8,095 raised to support people experiencing homelessness and social exclusion. Over 200 people supported them – if you were one….Thank you!
Perhaps the biggest lesson from the Pilgrim’s Reckoning is that success is rarely just one thing.
For Stuart McCaw, Luke Clements , Tim May and Mike Mactavish, success was saying yes to a challenge that none of them could guarantee they would complete. It was choosing to put their bodies on the line, push through pain, overcome self-doubt and keep moving forwards when the easier option would have been to stop.
For HopeWorks, success was seeing hundreds of people engage with a cause that doesn’t always receive the attention it deserves. Every conversation sparked, every social media share, every donation and every word of encouragement helped shine a light on the realities facing those on the fringes of society.
Success wasn’t just measured in miles.
It was measured in awareness.
It was measured in advocacy.
It was measured in people choosing to stand alongside those whose stories can so often go unheard.
This year’s Pilgrim’s Reckoning also marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter.
Following the event, HopeWorks is proud to become the Official Charity Partner of Thunder Races, allowing us to continue raising awareness and support across their programme of events. What began as a fundraising challenge has developed into a partnership built around shared values and a desire to create meaningful impact.
And that’s worth celebrating.
Because whilst £8,095 will make a genuine difference to the people we support, the lasting impact reaches much further.
It reminds us that homelessness is not somebody else’s issue.
It reminds us that ordinary people can do extraordinary things when they come together around a cause.
And it reminds us that success should never be defined solely by what we achieve for ourselves, but by the difference we make for others.
As we look ahead, we’d love you to continue the journey with us.
Our Walk With Hope campaign offers a simple way to stand alongside people experiencing homelessness throughout the year through regular giving. Whilst not everyone can take on an 81-mile ultra-marathon, everyone can play a part in creating hope, opportunity and belonging for those rebuilding their lives.
A regular gift helps us plan for the future, invest in long-term support and continue defending the dignity and potential of those who are too often overlooked.
The Pilgrim’s Reckoning may be over, but the journey continues.
And we’d love you to walk it with us.
Join Walk With Hope today and help create lasting change, one step at a time.
